Alumnus Clifford Sanchez Recognized as Winner of the 2005 Kane Fernandez Community Service Award
Clifford Sanchez was honored as the winner of the 2005 Kane Fernandez Community Service Award at the UH vs. Fresno State men’s basketball game at the Stan Sheriff Center on January 21, 2006. The UH Letterwinners Club also hosted a pre-game reception for Sanchez at the Letterwinners Clubhouse.

For the past 24 years, Sanchez has worked as the Associate Director of the Al Wooten, Jr. Heritage Center in South Central Los Angeles. Sanchez has worked with hundreds of children with the help of his professional team to develop programming that has empowered and enriched the lives of many in the community.

Sanchez is involved with the ABC News and the Reebok Professional Alliance Program, the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation, U.S. Tennis Association, The Venice Family Clinic, the Academic Intern Program, and the Ella Fitzgerald Library.

Sanchez graduated from the UH Mānoa College of Education in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in KLS, Recreation/Leisure Science. He lettered in UH Men’s Basketball during his years attending UH Mānoa in 1976-1981.

The Kane Fernandez Community Service Award was named after Kane Fernandez, the late Chairman and CEO of Fernandez Entertainment Inc. and E.K. Fernandez Shows, who was a charter board member of the Letterwinners Club.

Previous Kane Fernandez Award winners include Artie Wilson, Dr. Charles Araki, Daniel Lau, and former basketball and volleyball player Dr. Dennis Chai, who nominated Sanchez for the award.

Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter Supports College Fair in California

The UHAA Los Angeles/Orange County chapter recently represented UH at a college fair at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach on November 9. Sheryl Ray, Cliff Sanchez and Rick Wagner answered questions about UH and collected 120 interest cards from prospective students, a significant increase over previous local fairs, illustrating that interest in UH is high.
